What is a Pinche Gringo?

Gringo is a Spanish slang term for a foreignerβ€”usually an American. Depending on who’s saying it, it can be friendly, teasing, insulting, or somewhere in between.

Pinche doesn't haveΒ a perfect English translation. In Mexican slang, pinche is one of those words that can mean something different depending on how you say it, who you're saying it to, and how many beers you've had.

Think damn, freaking, lousy, fucking.

Put them together and you get:

PINCHE GRINGO

noun
A gringo who probably deserves to be called one.

Usually found fishing, hunting, grilling, drinking a cold one, working on something in the garage, or doing something his wife specifically told him not to do.

IS β€œPINCHE GRINGO” AN INSULT?

It certainly can be.

But it's usually a joke between friends.

That's kind of the point.

If your buddy calls you a pinche gringo after watching you absolutely butcher the pronunciation of something in Spanish, he's probably not challenging you to a fight.

He's giving you shit.

And giving your friends shit is practically a love language.

That's the version of Pinche Gringo we embrace.

We're not particularly interested in taking ourselves too seriously. We'd rather crack a beer, laugh at ourselves, and get back to whatever we were doing.

SO WHO'S A PINCHE GRINGO?

There's no membership application.

You don't need a boat.

You don't need 100 acres.

You definitely don't need to be good at fishing.

A Pinche Gringo is the guy who says β€œone more cast” six times.

The guy who starts smoking a brisket at an hour when reasonable people are asleep.

The guy whose garage has somehow become the neighborhood bar.

The guy who buys another fishing rod despite already owning a perfectly unreasonable number of fishing rods.

The guy who considers a cooler an essential piece of equipment.

The guy who looks forward to opening weekend all year.

The guy who'd rather spend Saturday outside with his buddies than just about anywhere else.

Fishing. Hunting. BBQ. Lake weekends. Garage beers. Campfires. Boats. Backroads.

Whatever your thing is, find your crew and enjoy the hell out of it.
